"Well, this is a story about books"
"About books?"
"About accursed books, about the man who wrote them, about a character who broke out of the pages of a novel so that he could burn it, about a betrayal and a lost friendship. It's a story of love, of hatred, and of the dreams that live in the shadow of the wind."

This was a re-read, and the first of many I believe. I read The Shadow of the Wind in 2007 and remember being dumbfounded by it. I raced through the story, unable to set it down as I was t

I found all I wanted to tell in Daniel's review,so I picked some of his reviews which describes my opinion the best :

After reading this book I really didn't know how many stars I should rate it. On the one hand, this is such a beautifully written book. On the other hand, there are some serious flaws which distracts from the whole experience.

The book contains lots of memorable quotes as well, definitely a good thing as far as I'm concerned.

Raina, my sister in law recommended this book to me. I have to say, once I started, it was hard to put down, and I read it with in two very busy weeks of my life.

I'll have to say that some of the scenes were a bit R rated. Not so much in a sexy romantic way, but more of a walked in on your parents kind of uncomfortable. So, don't get started if you aren't ready for that. Still, it was an interesting read, and I complex plot. I started writing dates down in the back cover at one point because I

An earthy and suspenseful gothic novel set in post-war Barcelona. I was most intrigued by the parallel plots of the narrator's life and the mystery he was trying to solve. Even the city of Barcelona seemed to be a character. The earthiness never seems gratuitous but is either integral to a plotline or to a character. The book is sensual...in the way it pertains to the senses...rather than sexual.

The book is translated by Lucia Graves, the daughter of Robert Graves.

This book kept me guessing and engaged the entire time I was reading it (and that's saying something since I read it during my first week post-partem so sleep deprivation meant little held my attention). I would find myself thinking about the characters and wondering what was next. I would compare Shadow of the Wind with Gone Girl in the way it held my attention and kept me guessing. I loved them both!
