What Members Thought

With the exception of her anthemic “Brave," I’ve not heard much of Sara Bareilles’ music, so I wasn’t sure whether this autobiography would appeal to me. BUT, I was pleasantly surprised. Bareilles writes from deep in her heart. Her vulnerability makes her likable and relatable, even to someone like me who is old enough to be her mother.

I listened to this book on audiobook and I would highly recommend that, even above reading a physical copy of the book. Sara herself both reads and sings the words in her memoir, and she is a wonderfully expressive reader, almost like we are having a conversation over coffee. Her organizational structure - introducing a song she's written to usher in the part of her life that inspired the song - is a wonderful way to think about one's life, and it gave me a deeper feeling and meaning about both

This was such a fun audiobook—she sings snippets of her songs and is really funny. She shares stories behind her songs and her struggles in the music industry. I love to read about people led by their passions. This book ends as she was writing the musical Waitress, which I got to see and loved! She says writing the book was harder than writing an entire musical. 😂
