Okay, I'll admit it. To my endless, secret shame, I have a weakness for self-help books. The Secret reminds me of a seminar I went to back in the early 90's called "The Forum." It was basically the same idea: that our thoughts and our perspective influence the world.

While I did find the focus on the power of positive thinking inspiring, I felt like the book took its premise a bit too far. The general idea is that anything you want will come to you if you think about it enough. On the flip side, ...more

Oprah finally got to me. The whole premise of the book is that if you tell the universe what you want, you will get it. I told the universe I want more financial stability, and I got a job promotion the next day. It hasn't worked yet in any other aspect of my life, but at least I got a raise out of it. ...more

Shelves: read-in-my-30s, read-in-2008, self-help

I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I thought this book was very poorly written. It is mostly just quotes that seem a little disjointed. The focus on money was a big turnoff.
