What Members Thought

Even after reading the description, I was expecting another autobiography by a comedian, ala Mindy or Tina. But this was so much more. Ansari inserts some of his story but this is really a sociological study on the modern dating scene, complete with plenty of primary and secondary research. I really enjoyed the structure and flow of the book and the research seems solid. I can definitely identify with a lot of the anecdotes (especially when it comes to the texting). I really enjoyed this and I a

This is really interesting, and Aziz Ansari is funny, I enjoyed it A LOT more than I thought I would!! But it also feels padded, and Ansari is trying too hard to be funny sometimes. 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4.
Also, I want to commend Ansari for being a fantastic feminist - it never feels like he's trying, but like it is his natural reaction, and it is awesome.
(Disclaimer, this quote is not from the book. It's just awesome.)

This was quite a fun read, especially if you're an Aziz Ansari fan (and why wouldn't you be, really?). I appreciated that a celebrity actually undertook a research project not directly-related to the TV show he's currently working on (and all credit to Eric Klinenberg, the sociologist who guided him through it). Given that I never really online dated - just missed that cultural phenomenon, mostly because of geography - it was just as fascinating to read about some of the basically-pointless norm

I found this pretty boring, actually. :/ Very little seemed new or surprising: is this because I'm already too prone to reading Slate articles about this kind of thing? Or because the last time I was single was circa 2007/2008?
- I'm about 80% super glad I didn't have to go through dating with all the Tinders and OK Cupiding and text-related games going on these days, and about 20% sorry I missed out.

Much better as an audiobook vs a real life paper book, just to have Aziz continuously make fun of you, the reader, for being lazy :)
Smart, funny, and pretty much what I've seen to be true when it comes to modern romance.

I don't know whether to feel vindicated or hopeless, but it's definitely a good book and excellent audiobook choice.

Started reading this after hearing Aziz on This American Life and it was already on my TBR shelf.
Not a ton of shocking new information and felt like some repetition. Interesting read, though. Made me think about my past dating life and was amusing to hear the anecdotes from the people in their focus group.
Audiobooked this one as I am tending to do with celebrity non-fiction.
