This book blew me away and was unlike anything I was expecting. Each time I thought I had it figured out, it surprised me again. I read it compulsively, I couldn't put it down. A huge part of my enjoyment was due to the excellent talents of the audiobook reader, William DeMeritt, who is now my new favorite audiobook reader. ...more

SO GOOD. This is alternate history done right: fascinating premise, immersive world building via small details (Pakistani cigarettes, South African cars) instead of infodump -- and all of that is just the backdrop for a gripping, plot driven story. The premise is that the Civil War was never fought and slavery still exists today in a few southern states. With a twist of Bourne identity type adventures thrown in.

Perhaps best of all, it uses this mirror image world to provide compelling commentary ...more
