I have to admit, I was a little surprised to find Stephanie and Morelli on the outs when this novel begins, since they’d been getting pretty cozy in the last couple of books. However, you won’t find me complaining, because less Morelli meant more Ranger, and I’m a Ranger girl through and through. I thought this was the best out of the last few Plum novels. My husband keeps telling me I need to read "real books". By real books, he means books written for adults. After a string of lackluster young adult novels, I was starting to wonder if he was right. I needed a break from insta-love and romantic triangles. I've had a copy of this book sitting around my house, courtesy of a friend, for several years, and I decided it would be a quick read as well as a change of pace. A palate cleanser, if you will.

I'll admit it, I read these books only because Ranger is hot. This book had lots of Ranger, but very little hotness. The character interactions have become the same old same old - over and over and over again.
On the positive side:
(a) this was a quick read, so I don't feel like I wasted much time.
(b) the title was actually relevant to the plot - sometimes these series become so cutesy w/ the title that you wonder what the relevance could possibly be - but this one centered around food, in partic ...more
