I think I would've gotten more out of this book if I knew the Taming of the Shrew better. That said, I liked it over all. I liked Kate, and I found the family dynamics strangely relatable. There was weird speech about how men have a difficult time that seemed out of place, but maybe that alludes to the play? Anyway, worth a read.

This was as delightful as any retelling of the Taming of the Shrew could be; that play will always be gross, so there were gross things about this, but Anne Tyler did as much lovely subverting as possible.
