Liked the first book better, but it was ok! TBH it looks like this series could be written in 2 instead of 4 but I’ll continue reading, maybe I change my mind lol

Ahh!! This was such a page turner! I loved the fast pace with quick alternating points of view. I also liked that we actually see real flaws in the main characters and their realizations of those flaws were pretty deep and interesting! The end too had some twists and turns I wasn't expecting so I'm totally excited for the next book! ...more

I was really excited to read this book, and I really enjoyed it, a lot more than I enjoyed Ember in the Ashes This is incredibly engaging, and I put off regular weekend chores so that I could just read read read. Yes, I stayed up too late reading this. Yes, the dogs' nails are STILL too long and need to be trimmed, it'll just have to wait until I'm done.

Nothing terrible about the story but somehow disappointing anyway. Parts were good and parts were just okay. Neither the plot, the world, or the characters ever really grabbed me this time. 2.5 stars rounded up.

I continue to be so in love with this universe and all the steps all the characters are taking it. I love the new things we are learning about our two main characters, and I deeply appreciate that we are watching Helene's journey as well. Over the top in romance and action. At first I was leaning towards 3 stars but then I stayed up too late in order to finish so it’s up to 4. A page turning fantasy read.
