I see why Dessen has been a popular author--her character development is wonderful. The main character, Macy Queen had a perfect teen voice. I enjoyed listening to her grow as a young woman into someone she is comfortable with and seeing her forge a new bond with her mother. This was one of those books where you would really love to meet the characters--they were just that well formed and real. I will definitely check out her other books soon. I really liked this book. Dessen created realistic characters with genuine emotions. Everyone was interesting. Somehow, in addition, Dessen kept me enthralled with descriptions of emotion and pages when not a lot of action or dialog happened. This is a great book about a teenager learning to be true to herself, and to deal with the messiness that is life.
Cute YA book- very adorable. Reminded me of some of things I read as a kid, though obviously updated. Nicely clean, too- real issues, but without heavyhandedness.
