I pretty much devoured this book. With that said, there were a few things about it that disappointed me, but overall it was incredibly easy to read, very easy to follow and heart-breaking .. but not heart-warming as I had hoped it be.
This is meant to be a sweeping story a la to Gone with the Wind about families in Texas and their plantations and businesses. There's broken romance, a secret offered at the start that will keep you reading, and some terribly twisted happenings.

April 2023: I’ve read this book and re-read it twice now. I was in a reading slump where nothing new I tried was working so I decided to start one of my all-time favorites. This novel has it all. Family drama, a love triangle, family secrets, lies, deception, fighting over land, regret, more love stories, and did I mention all the drama? Percy and Mary are two of my favorite characters ever. I fell for them the first time I read this novel and I’ve yet to find an author who writes as beautifully

I'd never heard of this author and picked this one up at a library book sale. What a nice treat. It was well written and the story captivated me from the start.
