Such a great, classic, comfort read. Mrs. Pollifax is smart and funny and full of surprises, the whole concept is just charming, and the twists and turns and predicaments she gets into (and out of) are wonderful. It’s short but packs a lot into one book. I’m really glad I reread this!

Written in 1966, this series and the wonderful Mrs. Pollifax aged well. Without being preachy Dorothy Gilman teaches so many valuable lessons -- the importance of being needed, of doing good work, of taking charge of your life and changing it if you don't like where you are at.

This was even more entertaining and charming than I expected it to be! Dear Mrs Pollifax takes EVERYONE by surprise (including herself) with her wit, stamina, ingenuity, and bravery. I did rather wish she would stop calling the unnamed Chinese man "the genie" but ... I guess that's the 60s for you.
Since these (well, the first eleven books, anyway) are read by the inestimable Barbara Rosenblat, I'm sure I'll be listening to the rest of the series. ...more
