I haven't really read any other Mark Twain, so I may have gone into this one not quite ready for just how overly verbose he is. This book could easily be cut in half, and might still drag in sections. There are some sections that offer very astute observations of the world the travelers find themselves in, but they are far outweighed by the (pages long) sections of just...nothing. ...more

I picked it up in a used bookstore in the French Quarter of New Orleans. I'm not sure that reading it whilst traveling is the best idea as air travel tends to bring out my misanthropic tendencies, but I'm really enjoying it thus far... ...more
