Shelves: children, adventures, classic

Sweet story about a family stranded on a deserted island. Instead of making it a depressing book, the author made this tragedy sounds like a very exciting adventure. A bit bland and boring in the middle, but overall a good classic especially for boys.

I'm not sure what to say about this one. As an adventure story, it was pretty good. I can see it entertaining a multitude of children and adults alike over the years. Realistically, an island with such a diverse flora and fauna isn't plausible, but the writing -- for the most part -- was good. I'm doing my best to ignore the "just thens" by reminding myself that the book was originally written in German and then translated into French and English. Aww, this is one of my all-time favorite books. I think I even own multiple copies of it. I read it over and over and over again as an elementary and high school student, and still remember being angry with a teacher who told me that the book was unrealistic. Unlike many stories about castaways on desert islands, this one was on a lush and imaginative island, with rich family ties and great creativity. it is such a warm and enjoyable book that it will always be one of my favorites, and I will re ...more

I was horribly disappointed by this read. There are no pirates and the Robinson family seems to always know just what to do to get out of every situation...just as things are getting suspenseful. I found the book boring and monotonous. I think the Disney movie actually improved this classic novel.
