The authors read or at least skimmed the Publishers Weekly bestseller lists for about the past 15 years and drew conclusions about American readers from their reading. I tended to agree with most of them, although I must admit that the "literary novel" category was the only one in which I'd read more than a handful of the books. I now know what Americans read but I'm not sure the authors really pinpointed why we read what we do. The book is definitely entertaining and highly opinionated. I guess I'm a unique reader as most people stick mostly with fiction or non-fiction...I tend to read a healthy balance of both. A fun read. ...more

This book goes through an interesting analysis of bestsellers from 1990 - 2006. It was a great reminder for me that I should be reading more fiction instead of so much nonfiction and luckily they have waded through all the popular books and give suggestions on which ones are really worth reading.
