What Members Thought

Initially, I was put off by the homespun title, but I really enjoyed this book. It's a quick read told in letters between a 30ish single writer living in London, her publisher, best friend, and a series of Guernsey islanders with whom she's randomly begun a correspondence. Topics mostly deal with returning to a kind of normal after the second world war and telling the story of Guernsey's occupation.

I really liked this book and was quite sad for it to end. Although the book was fiction, it really got me thinking about WWII and how little I know about it. I don't know if any of the book was based on actually facts, but I can't imagine that life on a small island during that time could have been very easy.

Adorable. It's just a really cute story. It's well written, and formatted in all letters. It's very compelling.
It's apparently being made into a movie. I cannot wait to see it. ...more

Loved every minute of this book! Definitely one of my recent top 10s. I fell in love with the characters and was completely fascinated by the story-telling through letters. I want to do it all over again.

I really loved this book! a very interesting way to develop a story, though letters to and from the main character, Juliet, with a predictable ending, but with a twist. I was engrossed all day in this book (I love vacations!) and really enjoyed reading it! highly recommended for a good beach/plane ride read!
