I feel like I felt the first time I read Octavia Butler, I feel pulled apart and put back together with a new understanding of the world. I have been taken to the future, to another world that is much like my own and shown that we can't escape our pain and wars if we can't see past our differences. Inventive #africanfuturism book which is powerful in and of itself, but short enough that it very much feels like the beginning of a larger story. I will absolutely be reading the rest of this series.

I loved this, I really really loved this, but there just wasn't enough to it! I haven't looked into it, but I'm guessing this was originally included in an anthology of some sort? In that setting, it would have shone. But as a stand-alone, it just felt unfinished. I wanted more! More backstory, more about the trip, just more more more! ...more

Waaaayyy too short. I wanted so much more. This is obviously going to be a long series. I barely got a taste of the worlds involved. It felt a little like a prologue. The visual descriptions are beautiful. I can't wait for this to be a movie. ...more
