Did I *enjoy* this? I'm not sure. It was kind of unrelentingly grim. Did I whip through it in 3 days? Yep. Am I going to read the next one, especially after that last line? ... yes, yes I am.

Naomi Novik is another of my favorite authors, and she doesn't disappoint with this one! I think the thing I love about it the most is the world building: a deadly school which is still safer for students than not attending, magic that works in its own ways, and a society of magicians unlike any others. I'm speeding ahead to book 2!
