This book was one of my reading goals this year. In fact, I have now completed all four goals! I had been wanting to read it for a while, which is why I made it a goal to begin with.

It was a thoughtful and well told story overall. I didn't know much about the hurricane giraffes or their long trip across the country to the San Diego Zoo, where Belle Benchley was eagerly awaiting their arrival. Shelves: coming-of-age, historical-fiction, uplit

A grumpy Old Man and an Okie kid travel across 1938 America transporting two giraffes to California. I felt like I was along for this amazing trip as I read this book, which is based on a true story. Loved it!
