I checked out and returned this one unread several times. Then I saw several less than great reviews but it is still over 4.0 on the ratings at Goodreads so I decided to just read it. And I am so glad I did! Many of the reviewers say that they have read this book before with The Fault in the Stars and I see their point, however, I really enjoyed this story and it didn't bother me to read another book with two quirky teenagers and their relationship. Niven's has written a very poignant book about the dark places of the mind (read: depression). She provides the reader some heartfelt moments and some lines that will (and should be) highlighted and used by many as pinnacles of reason.
However, having said all that, there are books that are just better ("The Fault in Our Stars," "Eleanor and Park," and "I'll Give You the Sun.").
It is a quick and fulfilling read but if you want something deeper, look to the books mentioned above. ...more
