I loved that every single character in this book had something broken about them. To me it makes them easier to relate to, as well as making the characters feel more “real”. As we learn more about them, and see their lives unfolding before us, we can feel for them and with them. It might not always feel pleasant, but that’s just how life is. This novel was raw, and it did not sugar coat the characters in any way. The use of the train, the train tracks and the ongoing train tips was really a fant ...more

There is something to be said for a strong finish! The beginning of this book was all over the place. Different narrators, different time periods. It was a mess, but by the time you hit the half way point, everything starts to make sense. The characters are strong, the writing is beautiful and the story weaves between the three narrators so expertly. Hawkins' novel DID have a vision and it was clear by the end of the book. I read this book incredibly quickly and loved how the chapters alternated between Rachel, Anna, and Megan.

Talk about a book that collapsed in the last twenty pages. Three carefully crafted characters dissolved to predictable tropes.

This book has been compared to Gone Girl and I definitely get that comparison. Early on it was true foe me because, like Gone Girl, I didn't really care for the main character. She was a mess! But I really enjoyed the story and trying to figure out first what was done and then who did it. ...more

A great summer read, similar to Gone Girl, this was the "A Book Published in 2015" book on my 2015 Reading Challenge. I can see why this book is a best-seller, I can see why people like it, and I'd read her books in the future. ...more
