I'm a sucker for a good retelling of a classic fairy tale. Meyer does a great job of melding genres in this debut novel. Fairy tale, steampunk, dystopia, science fiction, and romance all blended together to make a fast, fun, exciting read. I'm not a huge fan of cliffhangers, but it does make me look forward to the next book in the series. Well played, Ms. Meyer. Well played.

I absolutely loved it! I normally don't really like futuristic of sci-fi books, but I can honestly say it has much surpassed my expectations! Can't wait to start reading Scarlet & Cress.

While an intriguing premise, I didn't care for this book when I first started reading it. Some 50 pages in (my normal for YA books) I just couldn't do it. Several months later, a friend of mine recommended I try the audio version - as they preferred that better. And what a difference! I was able to get into the characters, and while albeit it was more than a little predictable in plot, I want to invest in book 2!
Good sci-fi read and contemporary retelling for sure! ...more
