In this book we follow a twelve year old boy, Doug, through his summer vacation. You follow not only his thoughts, deeds and contemplations, but also those of his younger brother, Tom, who is ten, and of his friends and other characters in the fictive Green Town. Somehow I had missed reading this book when I was younger. I'm glad I didn't miss it entirely! I read Dandelion Wine for my book group and found it touched with magic and great descriptions about that wonder we have when we look back to the time when we are growing up. Bradbury's depictions of the people of Green Town while whimsical are poetic and unforgettable. There are shadows of his science fiction and fantasy to come but this book reminded me more of Agee's A Death in the Family than many
