I rate this probably a 4.5 stars. It was Charles Dickens second novel length fiction, but in my mind his first actual novel. Pickwick Papers was a fun read, but seemed to me to be a mish mash of short stories blended into a single narrative. I have heard that this was Dickens worst novel. I've also heard that it is his most famous novel. I found it to be an enjoyable read.

Like everything else that I have read by Charles Dickens, Oliver Twist is full of wit, wisdom, humor and charming wordplay.
What I Loved:
1. Dickens' prose.
2. The wonderful characters -- especially some of those with the smallest roles.
What I Liked:
1. The sweetness of Oliver.
2. The bit of mystery in the story.
What I Didn't Like:
1. The predictability of the ending, which was too perfectly wrapped up in a bow.
What I Hated:
1. This book is Anti-Semitic. ...more

Oliver Twist, in full Oliver Twist; or, The Parish Boy’s Progress, novel by Charles Dickens, published serially under the pseudonym “Boz” from 1837 to 1839 in Bentley’s Miscellany and in a three-volume book in 1838. The novel was the first of the author’s works to realistically depict the impoverished London underworld and to illustrate his belief that poverty leads to crime.

When I found out Dickens was paid by "installment", I gave up on this book. I might read the abridged version someday.
