Two things are interesting to know about this book—it was Trollope’s favorite and George Orwell highly acclaimed it and is quoted to have said it to be, “one of the most brilliant descriptions of a lawsuit in English fiction.” (Source: Wikipedia)

I’m sorry to say it but this was such a slog! I wouldn’t have finished it if it weren’t for a book club I participate in and if I hadn’t had access to the audiobook and I had to read it physically, there’s no way I would have finished it.
I was more interested in the relationships and not as much in the legal proceedings and a lot of it was legal proceedings. It was so wordy with so much superfluous detail. The only other Trollope I have read is his collection of Christmas stories and it was 3 s ...more

I simply loved this book!
It was long, but I was interested to see what would happen next to the characters. I do love a story heavy on character development and Trollope delivers in Orley Farm! The audio book I listened to was a production of LibriVox, and read by a volunteer, as are all of the books from LibriVox. The reader (Leonard Wilson) really enhanced my enjoyment of the book with how he colors his voice when representing the different characters. Kudos to Leonard Wilson. If he isn’t a p ...more
