Most serious of all is that the central character, Stephen, has no depth.

So, you are wondering why I didn't rate this book. Well, I didn't enjoy all of it. Yes, there were some passages that were amazing, particularly in the last chapter where we hear Stephen's more mature thoughts, and he expounds on Aristotle, Plato, and Horace.
I believe I need to read the book a few more times before I will appreciate more.
