A poignant story of a young woman with few choices and a hard life. She has the opportunity to make change, but when the chance arrives she hesitates. I don't want to give away the end, but Joyce does a superb job of relating this woman's indecision and heartache to the reader. I loved this story and look forward to more by Joyce. ...more

The desire for love and a more pleasant life vs the comfort of a person's known world, are the struggles in this story. You may, in your lifetime, meet someone who you would follow over the mountain or across the sea. Eveline thought this person was Frank, but opted for the known of home at the last minute. ...more
