This melodramatic novel is about the British exploitation of the Congo and the ivory trade. There is a man (Kurtz) that had surpassed all expectations and became a reclusive "legend". The narrator Marlow, was sent to become more or less an understudy of sorts. After many setbacks Marlow finally arrives only to find that Kurtz is dying. Marlow becomes the bearer of his last words, which were "the horror!", but when asked by Kurtz' "Intended" he lies and tells her Kurtz' last words were her name. ...more
