What Members Thought

Like most Americans of my age, I have seen the Disney version of Peter Pan. So I expected a sweet and charming children's book with an impish and mischievous Peter, a sweet and good Tinkerbell, and a naive and caring Wendy. I expected the kind of book that enchants the reader no matter their age but one that may be easily left behind.
This book was a surprise. Peter isn't the heroic and sweet boy I expected. At times I found him a bit mean-spirited. And none of the characters were quite as simple ...more

Another work of genius that I somehow missed until now, that deserves its classic status, and that is definitely not, NOT a book written for children, though they may also enjoy it.
Peter Pan playfully breaks text and narrative sense, jutting images up out of the book and into the realm of floating poetry. Captain Hook is just so wonderful-- whenever he appears you just want to sit back and marvel.
If you haven't read it, please do. You will be astonished by every other paragraph.

4.3 I had a gift certificate to a book store and I bought the most beautiful edition of Peter Pan I have ever seen. It even has a satin ribbon bookmark! It’s amazing how long the story is and still the Disney version follows along so closely. It’s odd because it’s not a fast read.. and 191 pages! I can’t imagine a child ever reading it.
Or understanding it if read to by an adult.
I did enjoy it though and am very glad I read it.
