I was fascinated with the works of Edgar Allan Poe for a short time during high school when I tried to read as much as I could. I don't think I made it through the whole book but I read all the more popular ones, like, The Raven, Annabel Lee, The Pen and The Pendulum, The Tell-Tale Heart, to name a few.

In 8th grade I learned, "Poetry doesn't have to be beautiful." Then we read Poe.
