I personally like this book a lot, but I do not think it will fit everyone. On the surface, it is simply a coming of age story. The central character, Brian O’Connal, is an introspective boy growing up in a small town on the Saskatchewan prairies of Canada. The tale commences with the boy at the age four, his two-year younger brother is very ill. Brian struggles with the question of why no one is paying the slightest attention to him!
