A definite step up from The Princess and the Goblin. A wonderfully mystical beginning followed by a quite didactic middle followed by a strangely ambivalent ending. The influence on The Chronicles of Narnia is strongly apparent in the way the Grandmother sends Curdie on his quest and with the nearly-allegorical series of tasks and villains he must overcome.
