Translators: James E. Irby, Donald A. Yates, John M. Fein, Harriet de Onís, Julian Palley, Dudley Fitts, L.A. Murillo

The fantastical, surrealistic nature of the stories is giving me trouble. Some I can make little sense of. I am not impressed by those I do understand. Is the problem a matter of translation or that I am not at home with Spanish / South American ways and expressions?

I will continue, but slowly, reading a story now and then.

Small-scale examinations of the boundless set in infinite mazes (or are they claustrophobically tiny mirrored rooms?) created and/or linked by fabricated true identities, tigers, questionable memories, the names of God, and the occasional minotaur.
