Gosh, there are so many good reviews here to read, why should I add my two cents?
While I was reading it, I found it interesting, insightful, humorous and sad. Now that is a wide range of emotions captured in a small book.

I recently read my first John Steinbeck novel and fell in love. He seems to have had a deep understanding of human nature, a love of life in all its imperfectness, and a facility with language. He writes about deeply flawed and complicated people. He shows the darkness of life and mirrors it against the beauty. I have like his books so much that I added a new personal goal to 2017: to read all of his books. That goal led me to this little memoir.

I've had this on my to-read list for quite a while. I had forgotten what a skillful writer Steinback was. I enjoyed his observations as he toured the US in his camper with his trusty Poodle, lamenting the loss of regional dialects and inviting people over to chat and imbibe. I can only imagine what he would find if he were alive today!
