I’ll write as much as I can, as expressively as I can, but know already that I will fail in explaining what I want to explain. I just can’t depict what I want to depict. This is an incredible story. Lem’s writing is dense (one of the most painful and slow reads I’ve had in recent memory, at only 200 pages!) and filled to the brim with philosophical insight and daunting questions about mankind and the place and role of the race entire. Solaris really surprised me. It is science fiction, which is usually a bit dry and scientific. But this book had great description, character development, and emotional pull all while presenting a scientific like concept. The main character, Kris, goes to Solaris, a planet with a giant ocean.
