I went into this book thinking it would be a quick read, a deeper/better explained source for the 1997 movie. For the most part, my expectations were blown away. Allegations of militarism and facisim aside, i believe heinlein was doing what all great writers do, get people to THINK. To realize that whatever current status quo was in place (both in 1959 and now) is not the be all and end all and that there can always be a better way, a smarter way, essentially, to keep pressing forward as individ

This book glorifies war and being a soldier. There are long monologues about war and fighting. There seems to be very little action. Things are just described. The enemy is largely unknown and the troops rally around the objectives of their leaders. It was mildly interesting.
