I read that James Clavell wrote this book after reading one sentence in his daughter's history textbook. That sentence said that an English mariner traveled to Japan and became a Shogun. That one sentence so intrigued him that he wrote a book that was initially more than 2,000 pages! And even though this audio book was close to 54 hours, I would have listened to many, many more pages / hours! The story was so good that I kept earbuds in, listening, for hours on end. I started this book years ago, but never finished it. I had forgotten so much of what I did read, so I am really glad I was motivated to read it and finish it.
One of my favorite scenes was the Tea Ceremony.
It's a story of adventure, of a foreigner, John Blackthorne, aka Anjin-san (or pilot) along with his Dutch crew is lost at sea and finds himself in seventeen century Nippon.
