This is a story of first contact, quite similar to how it must have been for Columbus or other explorers out to see New Worlds, with little hope of ever returning home.
Even though the story unfolds like a Greek tragedy, and it is clear from the very beginning that something horrible happened, I loved the premise of this book, the humor (Oh. My. Gods! Merged review:
This was a fantastic book. It took quite awhile to get into it, and it was not an easy read, but totally worth it. I was in love with the characters by the middle of the book. A very good read.

Fantastic! Great examination of human nature, philosophy, religion, adventure, sci fi and more. All in a moving, intriguing story. Also recommend the sequel, "Children of God"
