Loved the premise of this, and many of the wonderful passages about books and reading. I listened to the audiobook, which was at times delightful, but eventually the hayseed-type accents for the Iowa residents became a little grating. This book started as a 5 for me, but the convoluted romances (Caroline's in particular) and the immigration bureaucracy devalued it a bit for me.

I thought the story started off strong; I'm a sucker for books about books and pen pals, even better when they're in the same book. The concept of two people on different sides of the world exchanging books ignites me. The plot twist of (view spoiler) even intrigued me; however, I think the story would have been better if (view spoiler) because I found the other characters boring and underdeveloped.

Predictable chick lit, but a fun, quirky cast of characters that really had me smiling the whole time I was reading, even though much of it was a bit of a stretch to believe. I loved it nonetheless and am giving it four stars. Sometimes those kind of books hit you at the right time and this one did for me.
