What a fun adventure!
Overall, I really enjoyed the competition aspect of this book, and how it is combined with video games and 80s pop culture. Wade is a great protagonist, as he is flawed but easy to root for at the same time. Plus, once I got into the story, I wanted to keep turning pages.
That being said, I was very disappointed with the use of a homophobic slur, and a passage that reads as transphobic as well (when Wade needs to make sure that Art3mis was born a woman, because otherwise he ...more

I really loved this book, the book I'd been reading before this had put me in a slump. But the second I started this I couldn't put it down. I'd heard it described as an adult version of Willy Wonka and it definitely embodied that. I liked the characters and the world was fascinating. I will admit I didn't know much about some of the things they talked about but I still really enjoyed this story. I can't wait to see the movie and I want to read more from this author.

I don't play video games nor do I get most of the 80's references in this book but I loved it! 5 out of 5 stars! The audiobook read by Wil Wheaton is the bomb dot com!!!
