Okay, "The Wrath and the Dawn" is certainly my most favourite book of 2015 and it probably will take its rightful place among my most favourite books of all time, among the first 10 of them or something like that.

I totally and absolutely adored this book. I was kind of sceptical when I started reading it because of the huge amount of YA books that have flooded the world's bookshelves the last few years and many of them orbit around similar stories, characters, world building and so on. But no, " Okay, "The Wrath and the Dawn" is certainly my most favourite book of 2015 and it probably will take its rightful place among my most favourite books of all time, among the first 10 of them or something like that.

I totally and absolutely adored this book. I was kind of sceptical when I started reading it because of the huge amount of YA books that have flooded the world's bookshelves the last few years and many of them orbit around similar stories, characters, world building and so on. But no, "The Wrath and the Dawn" wasn't one of the aforementioned books. It was a brilliant and beautiful gem all on its own.
Everything about this book was mesmerizingly pretty. The characters were real, vibrant, full of their personal demons, hopes, emotions and choices. I loved each and every one of them. The only one I kind of disliked was the one who might have created the terrifying storm towards the last pages of the book, no spoilers here, if you've finished this book you'll know who I'm talking about. Sharhzad was one of the strongest, bravest, kindest and most unique YA characters I've ever come across to. Her endless ocean of emotions made me smile, hope, cry and worry about her. And Khalid, oh my God, what can I even say about Khalid?! My new favourite crush certainly. I loved him and fell in love with him from the very first page of the book to the last. I loved the tension between them and how the initial hatred slowly but steadily turned into passionate and irresistible love. I also really liked the whitty comments of Jalal and the nature of the relationship between him and Khalid. The only part of the book that seemed kind of boring to me was Tariq's storyline and the sporadic apperance of a magical element throughout the story. It seemed that magic plays an important role in the grand scheme of the story, and I honestly hope this aspect will be fully developed in the sequel.
Renee Ahdieh's writing style is one of the prettiest and most talented styles I've seen by a writer who's written her debut novel. The choice of words and the world building is absolutely beautiful and there are some parts of the book where an ethereal veil of magnificence covers your eyes and makes you feel warm and fuzzy on the inside. Renee Ahdieh knows how to write and how to write both in a poetic, lyrical form and in a literal one, combining these forms into a brilliant garden of undeniable beauty and passion.
Overall, 5 out of 5 stars. This book definitely is an intoxicating gem of a story, as Marie Lu blurbed on the front cover, and I loved it with all my heart. I bought it as an e-book because I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not, but when I turned the last page I knew I had to order it in hardback form as well and give it a chance to live among my other most favourite books of all time. I can't wait for the sequel!
I recommend it to everyone, absolutely everyone! Just stop reading whichever book you may be reading right now and begin this one. I'm sure you'll discover something in it that will make your heart melt and then bump faster and faster over and over again. Sharhzad's and Khalid's love story has captured every cell of my tiny heart and made them its forever! Read it, guys, I'm begging you. I think it mostly belongs to the Romance genre and secondarily to the Dystopian and Fantasy ones. So many questions left unanswered and so many speculations for the next book, I hope the publication date of the second book arrives as soon as possible. ...more

I guess I can be the black sheep on this one. I'm not a fan. There I said it. That's not to say that others won't be. I just think I didn't click with this book the way others have. The writing is beautiful and the author does an exceptional job. I would read her next series. Just probably not the sequel to this duology.

I had a lot of trouble staying interested in this book. The pacing started off slow in the beginning and then was choppy throughout the rest of the book. I loved Shazi, Khalid, Jalal, Despina, and the Rajput's parts of the story but didn't care about Tariq or Shazi's Dad's story lines at all. You thing I did like was that when Shazi was mad or hurt or upset, she stayed that way.
