Perfect: I rarely give above 4 stars for a short story but this was so charming. There are others who have written of Elizabeth and Darcy being isolated together in a cabin in a snow or rain storm but for me the conversation, Darcy's attentions and humbling acts to give Elizabeth a fire, some water, the blankets, the warmth of his body while sleeping and to converse with her about their past interactions and their understandings of their friends and/or relations was a pleasure on this cold winte ...more

This was a short story where after Darcy’s rejected proposal, Elizabeth sees Darcy enter the inn where she is waiting for her uncles coach & flees to avoid the awkward encounter. Unfortunately, the weather turns bad quickly & she is lost & not dressed for the worsening weather. Our gallant hero goes to find her, but at that point they are forced to take shelter in an abandoned one room cabin. Straight-talking from both Darcy and Elizabeth moves them to a greater understanding if each other are quickly although being trapped in a small space may have helped too.

This is a well written novelette with more of an insight into the mind of Darcy than is usually explored in Austenesque writing.
