That hit the spot. I’ve been looking for this book for years, needing to read something that was just a whole bunch of fun.

Reading this story of a bunch of retired mercenaries getting the band back together for a final tour was a dip into my entertainment history. Back in my Air Force days, I had a group of men and women that gathered once a month for a truly epic Saturday. We’d meet for breakfast and then gather at one of our houses for an all-day session of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. We boug

I feel so conflicted...I love how it started, the writing reads smooth and the jokes are epic but a lot of it was boring too! The world has the most magical creatures ever, such a wide variety and yet they get summed up quickly so they get a mention and fall flat. The Heartwyld fell short, this huge ominous forest felt so rushed through. I wanted more! The parts that didnt feel rushed through were vivid and great to read through, I guess it shouldve been split into a trilogy so everything could ...more

I really wanted to like this one. Such a positive vibe all around the web. But it was my second try and I truly didn`t like the so called humor or irony, or what is it, and the story with the characters where kind of ...meh...

That was a fantastic journey.

It's made me wish for the good ol'days of my old World of Warcraft guild.

I don't think I can say anything bad about this book, it has humor, adventure, and most importantly heart.

A very nice surprise! Grabbed this through goodreads recommendations somewhere for a bargain price, and accordingly was not really expecting much. What I got turned out to be a rompy fantasy which definitely does not take itself seriously, but still manages to provide high entertainment value and an original take on the old trope of the adventuring band.

This reads a bit like Pratchett's silver horde through the lens of grimdark. Group of aging adventurers with their heyday well behind them gets

Other reviewers have already said it all. A new brilliant author to add to my list of favorites. I highly recommend you give it a try. I really love all the old school D&D references. It was a great ride with a fantastic ending.
