One of the greatest books ever written, in my opinion. It's shocking how much Orwell understands about people, politics and religion. It's even more shocking to see that much of what he has envisioned has already come true.
I read the book more than 10 years ago in German, and now again in English, and the latter version had an even bigger impact on me. It is one of the few books that I find 'disturbing' and that are incredibly thought-provoking. ...more

I read this book around a month ago and did not think myself to be in possession of a mental state which might enable me to say something about this. I can still remember my reaction when I finished this and the way that my roommates were worried for my sanity because I was so upset over a book. BUT what a book.
