This is the first book about amateur sleuth Adrien English. About 222 pages in large print, author Josh Lanyon introduces the reader to a bookstore owner, aspiring writer who's one-time best friend turned employee is brutally murdered in the back alley outside his home. It's up to English to connect the dots, to discover the connection between the death of his friend and dark threats he's been getting of late.

A light, fast-paced and well-written mystery that was a lot of fun to read. I enjoyed the humorous touches, quirky characters, and the growing relationship between Adrien English, bookstore owner and writer, and handsome, closeted homicide detective, Jake Riordan. (view spoiler)

Fatal Shadows is, in no uncertain terms, wonderful. I say this with complete and open enthusiasm.
I started reading Fatal Shadows without even looking at the small synopsis Loose Id gives. I didn’t need to; I knew I was going to buy it and read it. And actually, I am glad I did it that way because without knowing about the “hot and handsome LAPD detective Jake Riordan” I can tell you that the romance built so subtly, the attraction ignited so smoothly and naturally, that at its culmination it mad ...more

Wasn't hard to figure out whodunit. Wasn't super connected to the characters. Hoping the next one is better.

Before I start with my blabber, I just wanted to say that I have enjoyed reading this first book of the Adrien English Mysteries, and I'm looking forward for more.
My reading habbits don't include detective stories.
It's just not something I enjoy.
But I still decided to give this one a try, because it seemed to include an actual plot and interesting characters. I wasn't in the mood for more senseless smut with idiots f**king.
(I also liked the fact it's written by a man . XD...)

Kind of an over-the-top ending, but very enjoyable nonetheless, and so much better written than all too many gay mysteries. I was fortunate to stumble upon it when looking for an inexpensive book to try out the Kindle app for Android. Downloaded the next in the series when I finished this about 1:30 a.m.
