What Members Thought

I loved seeing the possibilities of what a novel-poem and expanding on the theme of a myth could do in this book! And the lovely strangeness!

This is one of my favorite books. Anne Carson keeps a tight veil of secrecy over her personal life, and how it does or does not impact her poetry... It captures all of the best nuances of relationships defined by misunderstandings... relationships that start as auspicious coincidences, grow at lopsided rates, and can only end with resolutions that occur at the individual level. After all, the time for doing things together is through.... and Heracles can't help but slay Geryon.
