I can't believe it took me so long to get around to this one since it was written by a fellow SC native.
But now that I did....sigh. I gave it four stars because I think it is wonderfully written and like most books about poor southerners, it's tackled the hard issues. But, as far as the story goes...it's so terrible. I was (and still am) so angry at so many of the characters so much of the time. Amazing, it's about a childhood marked by poverty and abuse. Painfully real story thats ultimately about family, no happy endings.
