So I guess I read Funny Boy at a pretty good time with its themes of difference and disappointment and love doesn't conquer all and divisiveness between ethnicities and how people do and don't belong. The book follows Arjie's childhood in late 70s early 80s Colombo, Sri Lanka (not gonna lie...everything I knew about Sri Lanka before this book was from M.I.A.). Was the first book I got from paperbackswap.com Only got it because it sounded interesting and I had never heard of it before. Unfortunately, I had started to read it right after I finished a really really good book. So it took a bit to get into it, and the author+customs were foreign.
But it only took me a chapter or two to get used to it.
