Maybe it’s somehow the wrong time for me, but I was unimpressed with wildly enthusiastic and specific taunting of friends or acquaintances who should be more or less involved or promiscuous etc etc. i don’t like romance novels in general and this felt too Harlequin or silly. As i said maybe just me but too old fashioned. So I quit.

This book is written like people in old movies talk. The women end up in love and together, so that's good, and there's an accidentally amusing scene at the end where they discuss why one of them shouldn't be "the man," but besides that this thing is pretty trite. It bills itself as the most popular lesbian romance novel of all time (though I'd never heard of it) and if that's true what a horrible terrible no good genre.

I can see that this book was a breakthrough for its time, with frank but tasteful eroticism and a happy ending for a female couple. However, I found the first half rather dull. Too much time was spent with secondary characters in the cabin, who were disagreeable and small-minded. The words "tenderness" and "soft" were used far too often in the love scenes. I like Forrest's mysteries but this one was just so-so for me.

This book was very familiar for me, so I liked it. It's obviously dated and a little cheesy, but I enjoyed it and it was a quick read.

OK, it's a romance novel. A fun, steamy lesbian one--but a romance novel none the less. If you don't expect too much from it, it's a fun read. Curious Wine was evidently quite scandalous for its time (published 1983) but it almost seems quaint today. I'd recommend it for the beach.
