Beautiful poetic writing distinguishes this multivocal novel about a trans male jazz musician and the many ways that people process the revelation of his queer identity after his death. The very concept of being transgender is new and scandalous to the people in his community (1950s-90s Scotland), let alone the terminology we now use for it.
