Okay, I admit that on July 16 this book was due back at the library and I returned it thinking I could go back and finish it sometime within the next week but that never happened.

I expected to love this book, based on: a) glowing reviews from friends and fellow readers; b) the positing of a world in which fluidity in gender and sexuality is the norm; and c) my admiration for Le Guin's short stories. Alas, in the end, the novel didn't quite live up to the hype.
